Dr. Len Cruz is a board certified psychiatrist who uses an eclectic approach to psychotherapy that is tailored to the individual.   He also provides diagnostic assessments and medication evaluations.   Dr. Cruz works with individuals and couples.  His practice, Family Life & Learning Center, PLLC, is located in Asheville, NC.  It includes three psychologists, three psychiatrists, and a licensed counselor.   Family Life & Learning Center is among the most established groups in the region.

Dr. Cruz is a Board Certified psychiatrist who uses an eclectic approach. Your visits with Dr. Cruz  begin with a careful, comprehensive assessment.  Treatment may involve psychotherapy (talk therapy), further diagnostic testing, medications, and other resources designed to equip you to address your difficulties.  Treatment is tailored to every patient's specific needs.  

He has practiced psychiatry for over 30 years and came to Asheville in the early 90s.  His wife, Dr. Vicky Scott practices gynecology with Asheville Women's Medical Center.  They have been married 31 years and have two teenage daughters.

 

innerQuest Psychiatry and Counseling (Opening its doors June 1, 2012)

Dr. Cruz is excited to announce the opening of a new practice with Dr. Steven Buser, innerQuest Psychiatry and Counseling.  The new practice is in the same building (932 Hendersonvlle Rd, Suite #104).  Dr. Cruz will continue at his current location through the end of May 2012.  

Dr. Cruz provides a variety of services including thorough diagnostic assessments, medication evaluations, individual & couples counseling, and insight-oriented psychotherapy.  Individuals and couples throughout the adult years are welcome.

The therapy relationship provides a unique vehicle for exploring of the past and present, the interior life, and the interactions & relationships with others as it pertains to current difficulties.  Counseling fosters more effective ways of engaging life and can help a person overcome chronic, unsatisfying patterns. 

 

About Dr. Cruz

Dr. Cruz completed the usual course of study (medical school and residency) and went on to develop skills in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, transpersonal approaches, Jungian-oriented therapy, Enneagram Typology (Arica®, Riso-Hudson, and Palmer), narrative therapy, and solutions-oriented approaches.

Therapy is like editing a story with a purpose (to cultivate a more fruitful, effective way of living). Counseling can break stubborn patterns that contribute to suffering,  Couneling can also provide tools for living more joyfully and fully.  Dr. Cruz is serious about his work yet he maintains a light-hearted, gracious approach to treatment.  Within every person there exists an inherent, natural ability to heal, grow, and individuate (becoming the person we were meant to be).

Faith

Many clients appreciate Dr. Cruz's openness to integrating faith-related issues into treatment. Dr. Cruz is a Christian who is also an avid student of other faith traditions.  He maintains a profound respect for other's beliefs and continues his active study of other world religiouns including Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Sufism, Native American Traditions, and Shamanism.

Faith is ultimately grounded in relationship (with God, a higher power, or with others).  Our wounds and struggles arise in a relationships and we also heal in a context of relationships.
