Dr. Len Cruz
I am a Board Certified psychiatrist who uses an eclectic approach. Your visits begin with a careful, comprehensive assessment. Treatment may involve psychotherapy (talk therapy), further diagnostic testing, medications, and resources that may equip you to address your difficulties. I believe psychotherapy and any other aspects of treatment should be tailored to your individual needs.
I have practiced psychiatry for over 30 years and came to Asheville in the early 90s. I enjoy living and playing in the Blue Ridge Mountains and feel like I came home when I moved here. I have been married 30 years and I have two teenage daughters.

Philosophy and Approach in Counselling & Therapy
Entering therapy is a profoundly important decision. The therapy relationship provides a uniquely vehicle for exploration of our past and present circumstances, our interior life, our interactions & relationships with others, and our personal history as it pertains to our current difficulties. Counselling fosters more effective ways of engaging life and can help a person overcome chronic, unsatisfying patterns.
About Dr. Cruz
Dr. Cruz completed the usual course of study (medical school and residency) and went on to develop skills in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, transpersonal approaches, Jungian-oriented therapy, Enneagram Typology (Arica®, Riso-Hudson, and Palmer), narrative therapy, and solutions-oriented approaches.
"People are storytellers and when we recount our story in therapy we often hear it with a fresh perspective"
Therapy is like editing a story with a purpose (to cultivate a more fruitful, effective way of living). Counselling can break stubborn patterns that cause suffering, Counelling can also provide tools for living more joyfully and fully. Dr. Cruz is serious about his work yet he maintains a light hearted, gracious approach to treatment. Within each of us there exists the inherent, natural ability to heal, grow, and individuate (becoming the person we were meant to be).
Faith
Many clients appreciate Dr. Cruz's openness to integrating faith-related issues into treatment. Dr. Cruz is a Christian who is an avid student of other faith traditions. He maintains a profound respect for other's beliefs and continues his active study of other world religiouns including (Mystical Judaism, Buddhism (especially Zen and Tibetan approaches), Islam (especially Sufism), Native American Traditions, and Shamanism).
Faith is ultimately grounded in relationship (with God, a higher power, or with others). Our wounds and struggles arise in a relationships and Dr. Cruz believes that relationships are the vessels through which we are healed from the wounds that bind us.
